What Is Automated Invoicing?
Automated invoicing is the process of setting up invoice schedules that automatically generate and send invoices to clients at a set frequency — without you having to do anything each cycle. Instead of manually creating the same invoice every month for your retainer clients, you configure it once: choose the client, set the line items, pick the frequency (weekly, monthly, quarterly), and InvoiceBlitz handles the rest.
This is distinct from a payment automation — automated invoicing generates the invoice and sends it. The client still pays manually via bank transfer, card, or other methods. For businesses with predictable recurring revenue, automated invoicing eliminates one of the most repetitive admin tasks in running a service business.
How to Set Up Automated Invoicing in InvoiceBlitz
Takes under 5 minutes. After that, invoices go out automatically every cycle.
Go to Recurring (Schedules) in your sidebar
Click "Recurring" in the left navigation. This is where all your automated billing schedules live.
Click "New Schedule"
Start a new recurring invoice schedule. Give it a name to identify it — e.g., "Monthly Retainer — Acme Corp".
Select your client and add line items
Pick the client from your saved client list. Add the services or retainer fee as line items — exactly as they should appear on every generated invoice.
Set the frequency and start date
Choose how often InvoiceBlitz should generate an invoice: weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or quarterly. Set when the first invoice should go out.
Invoices generate automatically
On the scheduled date, InvoiceBlitz creates the invoice automatically with the correct sequential number, today's date, and all your line items. No action needed from you.
Track payments in the dashboard
Each generated invoice appears in your invoice list. Mark it as paid when payment arrives, or send a reminder if the client is late.
Why Automated Invoicing Changes Everything
Never Forget to Invoice
Forgetting to invoice a client is lost revenue. With automated invoicing, the invoice goes out on schedule whether you remember or not.
Consistent Cash Flow
Invoices go out on the same date every cycle. Clients get into a payment rhythm. Your cash flow becomes more predictable.
Hours Saved Every Month
If you have 5 retainer clients billed monthly, that's 5 invoices you no longer create manually. Over a year, that's hours of recovered time.
Professional Consistency
Every automated invoice uses the same format, numbering, and branding. No accidental formatting changes or missed fields.
Works While You Sleep
You set it up once. InvoiceBlitz generates invoices on schedule — even if you're on vacation, sick, or simply busy with client work.
Reduced Admin Overhead
As your business grows, the number of retainer clients grows. Automated invoicing scales — more clients doesn't mean more admin time.
